YOU MIGHT NOT GET AN EAGLE ... IF YOUR LUCKY YOU WILL SEE ONE.
As of early 2026, the population of bald eagles in Southern Ontario has made a significant recovery from its formerly endangered status
Bald eagles are increasingly common and thriving in the Southampton area, with frequent sightings reported along the Lake Huron shoreline, near the Saugeen River, and in nearby MacGregor Point Provincial Park. They have also been spotted right here at the SC&CC. These birds of prey, which were once rare, now nest in the region, with recent sightings in early 2026 showing both adults and juveniles.

Best Time to View: Sightings are common year-round, particularly during winter when they are often spotted along the coastline and in trees.

Habits: These eagles are frequently spotted hunting for fish along the lake and are often seen perched in trees near the water.

Other Potential Locations: Nearby MacGregor Point Provincial Park is noted for its birdwatching, including sightings of these birds.
